Inotropic support during cardiac surgery.

چکیده
extremely claustrophobic conditions, the nature of the patient's illness, and the requirements for patient compliance during the procedure followed by a rapid recovery. There is a paucity of information on how this can ideally be achieved. Propofol would appear to satisfy these requirements, but its unpredictable effects on involuntary movements precludes its use. The regimen suggested by Dr Gray and colleagues would appear to satisfy the above criteria and appears to provide safe and effective sedation. We would be interested to know how many patients they have studied using this regimen and the number, if any, of adverse effects encountered.

The Cardioprotective Effects of N acetylcysteine as an Additive to the Blood Cardioplegia During Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
Introduction: During coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), the role of cardioplegic solution which results in cardiac arrest, is critical. This study was planned to evaluate the clinical impacts of N acetylcysteine (NAC) enriched cold-blood cardioplegia on early reperfusion injury in patients with ischaemic heart disease undergoing CABG Methods: In a...

Pediatric Critical Care Medicine www.pccmjournal.org 529 Objective: To empirically derive the optimal measure of pharmacologic cardiovascular support in infants undergoing cardiac surgery with bypass and to assess the association between this score and clinical outcomes in a multi-institutional cohort. Design: Prospective, multi-institutional cohort study. Setting: Cardiac ICUs at four academic...
متن کاملVasoactive-inotropic score as a predictor of morbidity and mortality in infants after cardiopulmonary bypass.
OBJECTIVE Inotrope score has been proposed as a marker of illness severity after pediatric cardiac surgery despite a lack of data to support its use as such. The goal of this study was to determine the association between inotropic/vasoactive support and clinical outcome in infants after cardiac surgery. DESIGN Retrospective chart review. SETTING Dedicated pediatric cardiothoracic intensive...
متن کاملThe Role of Levosimendan in Patients with Decreased Left Ventricular Function Undergoing Cardiac Surgery
The postoperative low cardiac output is one of the most important complications following cardiac surgery and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The condition requires inotropic support to achieve adequate hemodynamic status and tissue perfusion. While catecholamines are utilised as a standard therapy in cardiac surgery, their use is limited due to increased oxygen consumptio...
متن کاملBench-to-bedside review: Inotropic drug therapy after adult cardiac surgery – a systematic literature review
Many adult patients require temporary inotropic support after cardiac surgery. We reviewed the literature systematically to establish, present and classify the evidence regarding choice of inotropic drugs. The available evidence, while limited in quality and scope, supports the following observations; although all beta-agonists can increase cardiac output, the best studied beta-agonist and the ...
متن کاملIncidence and risk calculation of inotropic support in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass using an automated anaesthesia record-keeping system.
BACKGROUND This retrospective study analysed the effects of preoperative and intraoperative factors on the occurrence of inotropic support after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). METHODS The data sets of 1471 adult patients having received elective cardiac surgery with CPB were recorded using an online anaesthesia record-keeping system. Patients were judged to have required inotropic drug support...
